Introduction to Kief
In case you haven’t learned this before, the ‘dust’ that is on and around your marijuana is called kief. It is actually made up of dried trichomes, those cool little hairs on the marijuana flowers that contain most of the active ingredient, THC. It’s useful (and economical) to capture this and put it with the more obvious marijuana bits. A good grinder will collect this for you and you can scrape it up in volume later and sprinkle it on your ground marijuana buds before vaporizing. This will increase the strength of your marijuana by directly adding active ingredient to the mix, so be sure you start with a modest (less than the amount that can lightly cover a dime) amount in a vaporizer bowl already setup with ground weed.
btw: you can buy kief at most dispensaries; you don’t have to wait until you’ve collected enough of your own!
I’ve found it very useful to sprinkle on and mix into my Volcano vaporizer herb chamber with weed that has already been vaped a few times but is still fine with a little help from a little kief. I generally keep a half gram of sativa and a half gram of indica kief, so that I can add strength to the mix whether I need to stay awake or not.
